Longevity

The Ever-Anticipated and Allah-Promised Universal Plan of Imam Mahdi (PBUH) is gigantic and vast which he will implement on Allah’s command. But the Divine Permission has not yet been granted for this mammoth event. Allah the Almighty has bestowed longevity to His last Hojjat and Proof, so that when the Permission for the big moment is granted, the Imam will Emerge and each of the Imam's (PBUH) goals shall be achieved, one after the other.

Therefore, Hadrat Mahdi (May Allah hasten his Appearance) enjoys a long life, and from this aspect, he is similar to Hadrat Nooh -Noah- and Hadrat Khedr (PBUT).

Imam Zainul-Aabedeen (PBUH) has said:

In the Qaa'em, there is a Sunnah (tradition) from Nooh, and that is longevity.”

(Kamaalu-Ddin, p. 322, H.4 & 5; p. 524, H. 5; …)

According to the Holy Qur'an, Surah Ankaboot:14, Hadrat Nooh (PBUH) propagated among his nation for nine hundred and fifty years before the famous Deluge. If the years before the propagation and after the Deluge are included in his age, then his life easily exceeds 2500 years.

(Kamaalu-Ddin, p. 523, H.1, narrating from Imam Saadeq (PBUH); …)

While presently, Imam Mahdi (PBUH) is not even half of this age.

Qur'an confirms in Surah Kahf:60-82, that Hadrat Khedr (PBUH) was alive in the time of Hadrat Moosa (PBUH), and all Muslims, Shi'ah as well as Sunni, believe that he is alive till date. The difference between the Be'that (Proclamation) of the Holy Prophet (PBUH&HP) and the death of Hadrat Moosa (PBUH) is approximately 2000 years. Thus, Hadrat Khedr (PBUH) is at least 2300 years elder to Imam Mahdi (PBUH). Imam Saadeq (PBUH) has said that Hadrat Khedr (PBUH) has been granted a long life so that it may be an example for the longevity of Imam Mahdi (PBUH).

(Kamaalu-Ddin, p. 257, H. 53; …)

O' the Most Compassionate Allah! We know that You are the Omnipotent and thus You can bestow as long a life that You Wish, upon Your beloved Mahdi (PBUH), but we implore You in the names of Muhammad and his AhlulBayt (PBUT) -Your most beloved creations-, from the bottom of our broken hearts, to grant Appearance to Mahdi (PBUH) sooner, and not later … .
