Mazloom and Mansoor

and whoever is killed unjustly (mazloom), we have indeed given authority to his heir [to seek justice]; so, exceeding the just limits in the killing, he should not; surely, he is assisted (mansoor).

(Qur’an, Surah 17, verse 33)

Based on Islamic narratives, the general meaning of this verse applies to whomever killed unjustly; i.e. the heir of the killed person -usually his children- have the Divinely bestowed right and authority to seek the wasted blood of the killed individual. In another words, Islam respects human life so much that it absolutely forbids unjust killings and it warns those who kill unjustly that the family of the deceased who have lost their loved one, have the authority to demand justice. But this verse has a specific meaning, too.

O’ Allah! In history of humankind, who has been killed more unfairly and savagely than the immaculate son of the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH&HP), Imam Hossain (PBUH)?!

In the precious collection of the authentic Shi’ah narratives, we have many hadithes from the Prophet himself -before Imam Hossain’s martyrdom- and also from the other Imams such as Imam Baaqer (PBUT) -after Imam Hossain’s martyrdom- which indicate that the Ta’wil of this Qur’anic verse -the verse in its true and most original sense- is about Imam Hossain (PBUH); Imam Hossain is he who was killed unjustly (Mazloom) and his heir -who with Divine authority, shall seek the unfairely wasted sacred blood of Imam Hossain (PBUH)- is the Qaa’em (May Allah hasten his Appearance); and surely, Mahdi (PBUH) shall be assisted and aided (Mansoor)
 .
